Katy Perry, a renowned female singer, recently visited and donated gifts to underprivileged children in Ninh Thuan. As a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF, she shared her emotional experience during the charity trip. “I was heartbroken when I met an elderly woman taking care of her four grandchildren after her daughter passed away. Their family lived in a remote village on a hilltop in a small house. One of her grandchildren, a five-year-old girl named Linh, was severely malnourished. If UNICEF workers didn’t come to the village to help little Linh when she needed it, she might not have survived until today,” recounted the 31-year-old singer. “Linh is one of millions of children facing such challenges every day. That’s something we all need to be concerned about.”

When Katy Perry visited Vietnam, she met many underprivileged children who shared their dreams with her. They aspired to become doctors and teachers to break the cycle of poverty that their parents were trapped in. Perry emphasized the importance of helping these children achieve their dreams, stating that supporting disadvantaged circumstances is not just morally right but also the best way to break the cycle of poverty and improve their education, health, and well-being. With her trip to Vietnam, the singer hopes to attract support and aid for millions of children like those in Ninh Thuan. During her visit, Perry also held a Vietnamese child in her arms as a gesture of kindness and compassion.

According to Perry, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) strives to ensure that all children, whether living in urban or rural areas, and regardless of their socioeconomic status, are given the opportunity to develop and contribute to their families and communities. As a 13-time Grammy-nominated artist and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador since December 2013, Perry has made it her mission to advocate for children’s dreams worldwide.
