Scarlett Johansson, a renowned Hollywood superhero actress, recently disclosed in a 2019 interview that she wasn’t a big fan of the superhero genre for quite some time. Surprisingly, it was watching 2008’s Iron Man that sparked her interest in these types of movies. Scarlett Johansson played the famous character Natasha Romanoff in numerous Marvel films, including Iron Man 2, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. It was Robert Downey Jr’s iconic character, Iron Man, that motivated her to become a part of the amazing Marvel family.

The 35-year-old expressed her admiration for the unique and groundbreaking nature of the superhero genre, despite not being a fan of it specifically. She had previously stated her desire to work with Marvel, citing it as an exciting place to be, in an interview with Vanity Fair last year. Back in 2010, she gushed about her excitement at being a part of Iron Man 2, having researched the comic books and developed her own ideas for her determined and ambitious character.

After Emily Blunt turned down the role, Scarlett was selected to play the lead in a solo Marvel film, Black Widow. However, coming in as the second choice didn’t bother her at all. In fact, Scarlett sees being the alternate pick as an advantage as it allows her to appreciate the opportunity even more. As she mentioned earlier this year in Parade magazine, “The best call you can receive is after you are rejected for something and then you get it. You appreciate it more. I’ve basically made a career out of being second choice.” Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the release of Black Widow has been postponed indefinitely. The movie also features renowned actors like Florence Pugh, David Harbour, and Rachel Weisz. Along with her flourishing career, Scarlett is also enjoying a fresh start in her personal life.
